Alaskan yellow cedar heartwood is a consistent pale yellow colour with a fine, even texture and is straight-grained. It is not a true cedar and is harder and more durable than most other softwoods. Yellow cedar producers carry certification under either SFI, CSA, FSC® or PEFC.
