Hardwood timber for exterior construction

From its early origins in the 1930’s, Rosenfeld Kidson has been importing hardwood timber from around the world for heavy construction and infrastructure projects.

Hardwood construction timbers for bridge, railway and wharf construction and hardwood timber poles and crossarms for power reticulation have been supplied to the New Zealand market by Rosenfeld Kidson timber merchants since 1930. The high durability of New South Wales hardwoods, particularly in the ‘royal group’ including Ironbark, Tallowwood, Greybox, Greygum and Turpentine, and more recently, some of the South American hardwoods, has made these the hardwood timbers of choice for heavy construction projects.

However, there has been an increasing demand for durable hardwood landscaping timbers for both domestic and commercial landscaping projects, as well as timber boardwalk construction around parks, reserves and waterfronts. Species such as PEFC certified Karri, Vitex and Kwila have proven themselves to be the preferred landscaping timber species in the past and now our FSC 100% certified South American hardwoods, Tonka, Garapa and Massa are being increasingly used.

Typical timber sizes used for these landscaping applications are 150x40mm, 150/200x50mm and 200/250x75mm; however, we stock Karri and Tonka timber in sizes up to 300x300mm.
